Well, I have never been arrested for poaching, but I do know a few fellas who have been... One friend of mine who got caught right after loading up the illegal deer, was fined 500 bucks, lost his hunting license for 5 years, lost his rifle, and thought there for a while they were going to take his truck too.... But different states have different laws on this, so you will probably just have to wait and see.

I won't scold you........I was young and did some things I regret as well.
So...lol..don't take what I say as such, okay?

Since this has already happened, I'll give you some pointers for next time....
if you don't have a tag for them (I don't know if you did or not)...don't shoot them. It's kinda illegal.

If you are on private land...or public land without said tag....don't shoot them. If on private land..that would be tresspassing as well..which is illegal.

But, I take it this was an impulse thing and that's why there was a poached deer in your truck. Because I'm sure that I'm telling you things you already know.

Like Mongo said...here, you get fined..can lose your vehicle(for either shooting from it, or transporting deer with it),lose your rifle, and lose your hunting privelages for so many years. If you were on posted land...that's tresspassing, and the owner could even charge you for "stealing".

K...now..... I'm sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way. Like I said...I'm sure we've all done some things similar (lol..just didn't get caught).

I just want to know....... were you on public or private land? I was wondering that because I don't know why the law would have come unless someone called them.?? And...did you have a tag (or permit)?
All that could mean the difference between a couple of fines.

In Kansas, there's also an additional fine for taking a deer with such a small round. If I remember correctly, it has to be bigger than a .22 caliber round (.243 on up) so as to ensure a more humane kill.

Sorry you had to experience this, hunter, but regardless of the consequences, I doubt you'll do it again.

Ks Sniper, it's the same way down here below you in Oklahoma too. But here the rifle legal minimum is a centerfire, .22 caliber, soft point round, weighing at least 55 grains......... naturalhunter05, you just screwed up... God knows that just makes you like most everybody else. Everyone has their screw ups of various kinds. And believe me, I am an authority on screw ups...... Let us know how you come out. I do wish you the best.
