If I am hunting ringneck it's always high brass. Those rooster are tough.

Rabbit, woodcock, and grouse a low brass will work fine. It only takes a few pellets to anchor one of these game animals.

If I am using a side by side I may put a low brass in the right barrel (first shot) and a high brass in the left barrel. However I will keep the shot size to 7 1/2.

the low brass will be 5 or 6 shot.

You might say that our rifle range is in a pecan orchard and I love to set out there on the bench and shot squirles with my 22-250. I only aim for the head so I dont waist the meat. When I rabbit hunt I use a 22long rifle.

Most of the time I just used what I had on hand... But given a choice, I preferred high brass for prairie chicken or pheasant, and low brass for most everything else. Depending on what it was I was hunting I may use anything from #8 shot to #4.

If I'm hunting woodchuck and planning on long shots say plus 200yds or more, I might use my .243Win. or even a 6mm Rem. Now if one pops up around about 75yds, I'm instantly overgunned, but I'll take the shot anyway. The samecould be true with other animals. We just never know do we? Best wishes.
