ButchA, Welcome... Jump right in and make yourself to home... Glad to have you join us.
ButchA
Thanks everyone....

Here's a photo of my pride 'n joy deer rifle. I bought this off a buddy at work a few years ago for a steal. It's an old Marlin 30AS .30-30 with an even older Glenfield 4x32 scope on it. Give me some 170gr Core-Lokt's and put me about 100 yards out, and I'm deadly! biggrin.gif

Butch,

Neat rifle !!

It looks nice & light too ... you shouldn't have any problem at all carrying it, whilst yer dragging out my Deer !! ... lol rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Heck, iffen yer really up to a lot of "hoofing it", Bawana & I can see to it that your teamed-up with "Miss Winston" (Frank-O); he'll have tottin out Airplane parts from high up on the mountain before ya know it !! ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

Dang, ButchA... I'm with you all the way on that one... My wife's primary deer rifle is an older Marlin Model 30(pre-cross bolt safety), with an old 4X scope(so old and used that the name is worn off and can't tell the make), and I usually load 170 grainers for her.... Excellent woods set up.
ButchA
Thanks everyone.... I haven't named the rifle yet or anything, but yeah it is a sweet shooter. I remember when my co-worker let me borrow it for the weekend to try it out. From that very first shot on the range, I just fell in love with it and immediately bought it from him.

As far as favorites, this is my baby.... I named her "Miss Patsy" - party from the letters of PSE and Patsy Cline.

It's a 1996 PSE Edge 1000C lefty compound bow (65# draw, 30" draw length, 65% letoff, with the round wheel dual cam style). It is lethally accurate out to 35-40 yards. I just keep on shooting it during bow season and can't seem to bring myself to upgrade to the newer, faster, lighter, single cam style bows.

I gotta head out this afternoon to 99er's territory and have a look around and bring my bow in case I see a nice deer.

Butch A.

P.S. Oh.... I am a little bit of an odd-ball. I am lefty but then I'm righty. I'll do this lefty but that righty and I don't know... I'm weird. I'm all mixed up. As far as shooting and firearms and whatnot, I shoot lefty.

Bow: PSE Edge 1000C lefty compound bow
Rifle: Marlin 30AS 30-30
Shotgun: Remington 870 12GA lefty version
Hands
That's a nice bow as well! (love the handle on her too biggrin.gif ) And, PSE's are reputed to be some top notch bows (with their performance)...looks like you got a nice one at that.

And hey...the left, righty thing...I am like that too. I am a righty and shoot from my right. But, with things like violins or guitars and such, I can't use my right, and am only a lefty. laugh.gif

Butch,

Nice bow as well.

Curious as to what make and weight Broadheads you use ??

99er
ButchA
I have my bow setup by the shop:

Easton XX75 Camo Hunter aluminum arrows #2315 (flying tire irons!)

The broadheads are either Magnus Stinger 4 blade in 125gr or a new broadhead that you can get only by mail order called a Slick Trick. It is the most accurate most amazing broadhead that flies exactly like a field tip.
model99er
Butch,

I know this is hard to believe, but my 125gr field points are ~ 4" higher than my 100gr 3-point Montec Broadheads; this is using my new Parker Terminator Crossbow (rated at 320fps) !!

You wouldn't happen to have any sort of logical explaination to that would ya ?

About the only thing I haven't done, is to index the Broadhead points with the vanes. I plan to add o-rings and try that this week, before heading out next weekend.

Also,
A tid-bit for you ... Parker is located in Mint Spring, which is 2 exits south of Staunton (where I-64 and I-81 intersect). That, along with their lifetime warranty are the main reasons I chose Parker over the other equal cost/quality crossbows.
You may want to keep that in mind when you ever decide to look at new bows.

4" high with a heavier grain broadhead? Weird.... That defies the laws of physics!

I know of Parker bows. I picked one up at the Sportsman's Show here in Richmond, this past August. They are NICE!!! biggrin.gif

I use the small rubber Orings on my Magnus Stingers. That way, I can just tweak them a little bit and get them line up vertical with the bow string. The other broadheads called "Slick Tricks" are a small 4 blade head that looks like a short stubby 4 blade Muzzy broadhead. But they fly amazing and exactly where you aim.

I agree !! huh.gif
The actual results were (all shots were at 20yards) ...
~ +4in ... 125gr Field Point
zero ....... 100gr Montec Broadhead / tried another make and they are the same
~ - 4in ... 125gr Montec Broadhead / tried another make and they are the same

If Indexing with O-Rings doesn't help, I'm pretty much just going to have to accept the fact that it is due to areodynamic differences between the Field points and Broadheads.

I had initally thought the Field points were 100gr, but this had my curiousity up enough that I weighed both the Field Points and Broadheads. I was floored when the Field Points weighed 125gr, rather than the 100gr that I had initally thought.

I'v read all sorts of articles on "Bow Tuning", but all of the articles I could find were written around Bows, rather than Crossbows. There don't appear to be much that you can change on a Crossbow.

Right now, I can hit 3 out of 3 in an area about the size of a 50cent piece at 20 yards and I'm about double that area size at 30yards and the arrows seem to be nice and level impacting the target. So I ain't worried about it too much !! wink.gif biggrin.gif

Very nice!! That looks really cool! Where I live, I couldn't hang a deer in my backyard, side yard, etc... some of the neighbors would totally FREAK OUT ohmy.gif blink.gif and then probably call the cops....
