When are/were ya'll seeing deer?
Here in my spot, it's always been, either you're there in the first hours of day up til about 10:30 am or at the end of evening, or you won't see a deer. They just did not move around in the afternoon. (in my spot of land)

But, this year, they ate all the acorns and honeysuckles and such early on, and are trying to find stuff to eat. There were deer in a green field at 1 pm. Bout blew my mind! LoL
A BIG buck was spotted (when I say "big", I mean pretty dang big--for my area--. Was so big, it gave the hunter such a shock to actually see it, that it was heading to leave by the time the hunter snapped to. laugh.gif ) in a field, no less....around 2 pm.

That's just crazyness. laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

Anyhow, how are/were they moving for ya'll? What time of day did ya'll see the most hide and hair?

I haven't seen a deer this year in the middle of the day I've seen all in the first and last hour of day light. But I've seen the most at night while I've been calling for varmits with a spotlight. But you cant hunt deer at night but it is fun to watch them I seen a 150 class buck 2 weeks ago at night and been hunting the same area since durning the day and hadn't seen hide or hair of him just my luck.

Oh yeah, I'd always see some good lookin deer at night too.

The son and son in law have been out a few times, but all they have been seeing are does, and those only in the mornings.

Haven't seen much this year. But in the past I actually saw more deer about 1 hour after sun-up and about 1/2 hour before dark.
Hands
Yep, that's the way it always has been here too. I mean, you'd see does throughout the mid mornings or late afternoons...but, bucks would only come out at after and just before dark-thirty.

I generally see more Deer between daybreak and 10:00am.

Hands,PA started an antler restrictions a few years back. And they also extended the doe rifle season from 3 days to two weeks.Since this I've noticed the deer are more nocturnal and especially the bucks.Makes it tough to kill one when they're only coming out at dark. blink.gif
Hands
Yep, I'd imagine so. I guess they wised up.

We've had the same laws for a while now, ( they basically just want them killed), so the deer aren't doing anything real weird (like becoming nocturnal).
It really depends on the kind of area you're hunting here. If you have a spot like mine, you won't see a big buck unless he's horned outta control in the rut, because it's in a hard hunted spot. I've seen tracks of a elephant lookin buck on the land last season, but, I know he was moving before it got near light out. That would have blown my mind just seeing those kinda fresh prints in my area, if it wasn't the rut. But, he still stayed in the darkness. (And he sure wasn't bedded on my property sad.gif )
But, if you have a spot where there are deer that aren't hunted much, they'll come out more and you don't have to go find out where they live at laugh.gif Just the other day, a deer out here in a safety zone crossed the road and he was a HOSS. Folks don't hunt this area, and he acted like he never seen 1) folks and 2) cars. laugh.gif Just stood there. (driver)Even backed up and looked again. laugh.gif That's pretty unheard of, specially with a big buck.
But, my spot...if the wind does a split second change and they get the tiniest whiff...they know what you are, and they run like heckfire outta there! biggrin.gif

Been wondering though....what are your restrictions? Been meaning to ask.

I nthe past I have always seen more deer in the early mourning and almost as many during the last hour of light. But the past few years more and more hunters seem to quit hunting at about 3:30pm. Lately it seams as if I have been seeing more deer in the evening and less hunters also. Works for me. There is a lot of hunting presure here in south-east idaho and it really afects the deer movements. I never miss the mourning hunt though. Seems like that is when I usually see the biger bucks.

When I first started hunting where I do now, I hadn't seen any deer PERIOD for, like, the first 3 years. I was convinced there weren't any at all there laugh.gif
It's cause the deer at my last place had me "trained" and spoiled.. laugh.gif They were early morning movers, and late evening movers. So, I'd, for like 10 years, get in the woods at that joint before daylight and then around noon, I knew there wouldn't be any deer seen, so, we all would go and eat, then head to camp for a nap....then get back in the woods an hour or two before evening.

When I came to this hunting spot, I guess that dog just didn't hunt here. Last season, I finally got them , I thought, figured out...they moved early (at like dark thirty) morning to be near the acorns, and come out right at little after light. Still didn't see them in the afternoons any.

Anyhow, they're afternoon crawlers now, this season. laugh.gif I think they patterned US. laugh.gif

In most of the areas I hunt I try to start right at daylight and hope to catch them coming back to their bedding areas or about an hour before nightfall when they come out for their nightly feed. On really windy days they may not come out at all, or if there's heavy hunting pressure. If it's an area I'm not all that familiar with I prefer to check where the hardwoods (feeding area) gives way to the evergreens (bedding area). Hopefully you can locate where they go from one to the other. Best wishes.

Been seeing some across the street in the mornings, in the field that borders a finger of Bird Creek, if that counts... But the city police station is only a few blocks away, and they sorta frown on shooting them here in town.
