Full Version: Ever had an ATV wreck?

Just wondering.

I've had a few, but, they weren't real accidents. I was more or less showing off, and it was a high percentage I would land in a tree or on my back on the ground somewhere.
I have had one "mess up" , but it was a junker, and it's throttle stuck (this one, the steering would always go out as well) and I ended up on a tree. (showing off, so I don't count it as an accident, as much as couting it as "the higher odds" )
The most real accidental ones I know people (I know) had mostly just had them flip over on them while going up a hollow. One man (Bones), his flipped over and fell on him and broke his arm. My grampa just had one a few days ago, but, he was able to get away from it and he didn't get hurt save some bruises(he had a deer on it ). I haven't had one do that yet. (A car, yes..lol..but, not an ATV.)

I love ATV's, but, I hate to hear of all the accidents. I know people (a kid even) that have died on them.

Any of you ever had an accident on one?

I rolled mine the very first weekend I took it out seriously riding ... that darn hill at VA Camp was a lot steeper than I thought !! wink.gif biggrin.gif

Anyway, it came back on me and when it was up in the air, overtop of me I just pushed up on the handlebars and it did one complete flip, bounced on it's wheels and did another complete flip. Neither the me or the 4-wheeler was even dinged up bad, both had just a small scratch or two. Funny thing was that my 222 rifle which was strapped down on the back, never even came off !! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Course I had some experience in flipping stuff; I flipped a 360 Yahama Enduro Dirt bike I had and that knocked the wind out of me and bruised me up pretty bad ... I ended up trading that succa for a slightly used GE Microwave shortly after Microwaves first came out. I kept that Microwave for well over 10+ years, I would have probably killed myself if I had kept the Dirt Bike much longer !! ... lol unsure.gif wink.gif laugh.gif

Dang Eli. That's what scares me..it happens so quick you have to be real quick with your wits or reflexes or whatever. Stop to think "oh shoot" and you're probably already hurt. sad.gif

Never did but I saw Pigger roll his.Being he was alright I laughed so hard I peed myself.

Had a couple of bad ones riding trail bike.Went high in the air over a ramp on a dirt track once and came down on the handle bars with my ribs.Probably cracked a few.Ouch

Had a couple on the old 3-wheel Honda I used to have when we lived in the country. Never had any serious damage tho... The fella that used to run the pawnshop downtown, was hunting in Colorado about 15 or so years ago, and died when he wrecked his snowmobile.

Man, that's sad.

I flipped my end over end at 50 mph chasing some hogs and ran off in a slight washed out spot. When I finely stopped flipping bounching and rolling I didn't ever have my shoe on, shirt half torn off,and pants down to my ankles. I didn't get hurt bad I just couldn't move very good for awhile (2 to 3 weeks) but I guess I was lucky for being on soft dirt( plowed ground). As for my 4 wheeler it was fixable . As for my shoes I never could find one of them. I think I drank to much BUD LIGHT that day that was the main reason I crashed.

Man, that sounds like a serious wreck. Glad you came out alright. (as alright as you did, ...you know what I mean.)

I was being an idiot one time (Not saying anyone that acts up on one is..I genuinely WAS being an idiot..LoL ) on one, and was cutting curves on a dirt road with gravel..lol...I hit one curve flying and the back end totally slid off the road and started going down the hill . I was so lucky. It went backwards, I fell off and hit the ground, and it went over me and then started to flipping. It probably woulda got me good (if not killed me) had it touched me. I hurt for a long time in my back (but, I had to "suck it up" alot. Wasn't no going to the doc unless "we" were dying laugh.gif ).

They can be fun, and they sure do invite trouble..lol. I loved putting those things in mud.

A friend and I were at a party at the lake one night many years ago, and borrowed a guys bike to run to town... On the way back, on the back gravel road to the party Walt wrecked us...I was riding on back, and all I got was some road rash, but Walt broke his hand, and the bike was still driveable, but scratched up and broken headlight and a few other things...... But ... we did not break a single bottle of the 2 cases of long neck BUD I was carrying.

Finally something I am an expert at!!
Just to give a little back ground on this I raced at local tracks have done some hair scrambles on both ATV's and dirt bikes. Then after a car wreck ended all of that I would sand/dirt drag ATV's on a 300' track pretty fun my best time on my banshee was 5.25 sec in 300'
The bones
8 broken fingers at the same time twice with in 2 years (hair scrambles I hate trees)
2 broken collar bones at the same time that was fun!!
Cracked my thigh bone that one hurt the most
Broken each arm.
Toes I think I still have one that has not been broken
Stitches
I lost count but I am at 28" so far
Staples
I am at almost at 12"

Now when I ride I only ride in the sand dunes in Oklahoma
or on street bikes.

Sweet. I always wished we had tracks to race on. All we ever had was drag strips and "crash derby" areas for cars. (Which are fun....but, nothing is as fun as racing--or jumping--on ATVs and dirt bikes.) The drag strips were legal , but in a dry county so I hardly ever went, and strictly for cars or buses. (would be impossible to find any friends to come with in a dry county). Anything else we did....kinda was just at "whoever owned the most land's" home.
And 5.25 on a 300' stretch is pretty danged fast. cool.gif

I've always envied anyone (my buds as well) that would do those things , wreck, and come back a little bummed up. LoL....they have the coolest stories when they get older.
I have never been hurt bad (cept, needed stitches a lot, but...used tape) on a wreck. The only broken bone I've had.....is such a wimpy story. I fell off of fricken monkey bars. sad.gif (My very first wreck though...lol.I was a little kid on my grampa's bike and wasn't sposed to be --Gramma let me though--, and wrecked it and had a bruise from above my navel all the way down to my thigh. I thought I was so bad arse afterwards. ROFL laugh.gif )

Anyhow, cool story jason. tongue.gif
