Alrighty......here in my state, we are not allowed to bait deer. So, obviously,I don't do it.

Do any of you bait deer? Or rather, is it allowed where you reside?

And, always like to hear comments about it. To me...I see it no different than hunting over food plots (which I do at times) or oaks with fallen acorns (which I do), or any other "source of nutrition".
But, that is just my opinion. But , after saying that, if it was allowed here in the near future, I don't see myself doing it (and all mainly because it tends to make them nocturnal in the off season when we do it)
Now, we are allowed to bait off season....and that I do. More for the reason that I like some healthy deer on my lease.

So....allowed to do it? Do ya do it? Comments?

We are not allowed to hunt within 300 yards I think, or within sight no matter how far. The law may have changed to less yards, but is absolutly not allowed to be in sight of your stand. I don't really have an opinion as to whether it should be legal or not. I would not hunt over a feeder or food pile but will hunt foodplots or natural food sources.

"Pineapple" trees are legal, ain't they ?? ... lol biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Seriously, I don't do food plots or any baiting.

In Virginia, I hunt about 1/2 my time on a Horse Farmer's land and his neighbors grow some pretty decent crops. In PA, my ridge field has been in Crown Vetch for many, many years and my neighboring farmer has plenty of corn fields close by. The years he has his bottom fields (across the highway) in corn, the "screeching of car brakes" is normally enough to wake me up from any sort of slumber state I may be in !! wink.gif rolleyes.gif

Hands:

In NY, baiting is strictly illegal. Some farmers were known to have salt licks (block of salt on a stake and set out in the pasture) commonly used locally on dairy farms. Occasionally while grouse hunting I would come on one of these stakes. I'm sure the farmer was just looking out for the welfare of the cows that wandered into the woods. biggrin.gif

i rarely hunt any more but when i did i sometimes used feeders where legal. i see no difference in using food plots (aka farmer johns cornfield), perssimon tree, wild apple trees, or a feeder. it is ambush hunting.

I'll be honest with you...I don't know if it is legal here or not... I never really baited them, other than put out lure a few times. My father in law sets out salt blocks and some kind of deer "attractent", called "Deer-Cain", or "Deer-Candy", or something like that....I don't know if it's legal, and he doesn't care.

It's not legal here Mongo......yet, we have more corn sold during deer season than not...hmmmmm....lol
