I like the peace and quiet of the woods and it's just me and the critters.
The kill is the icing on the cake.
What are your favorite sounds while hunting?
My worst is a turkey putting or a deer snorting. biggrin.gif
My favorite sound would be a deer walking in the leaves.
What are your favorite smells while hunting?
Spring flowers turkey hunting are neat but I'd have to say the smell of the fall woods is tops.

Yep that what it is the peace and quiet.

If I had to hunt to feed the family they all starve.

Best sound would be the flush of a ruffed grouse as it takes off like a rocket.

Worst sound is the bark of a fox. You hear the bark of a gray or red fox and you have been had. It's all over your better to move on to a new place to call.

The smell of rain in dirt after a shower. The smell of fern is not half bad either.
Smell of burning leaves in the fall.

I like the peace and quiet when it is just you and your bow up in a treestand. The sun is just about to come up and all the critters are waking up and starting to rummage around.

I also like the friendship and comradery of a deer camp. The stories, jokes, and tall tales are what make for great memories!

Good topic hemster!

I like the quiet too most of all. I need quiet, don't like a lot of chaos around me.

My favorite sounds are crows cawing..lol..and I like the creaks and whistles of trees in that fall & winter wind. Sometimes they sound like old rocking chairs rocking on a porch.

Worst sound would be a doe blowing. It spooks me everytime I hear it! lol

Favorite smells...I like the dirt and the smell of "outside". I like the whiff you get of a deer when it gets close and the wind is blowing the scent in your face. They have "outdoor critter" smell like the bunnies and tree rats also have. I rather like that smell. Smells like "Nature".

What do I like most about hunting? ... Gee, that's a tough one. Hunting, or just getting out in the woods, was just something I have always done. My father seemed to always head to the woods with a gun or fishing pole any time he wasn't working or takeing care of necessary things at home. He was raised in the bottoms along the South Canadian and Verdigris Rivers with 12 or 14 brothers and sisters, and he always just seemed more at ease, happier, and less "keyed-up" out there. Guess I inherited that from him. But we spent alot of time at my aunt and uncle's place about 10 miles from town when I was growing up. And we had several family friends with ranches and farms back in those days too...... But what do I like most? ... I guess just getting away from people and things that clutter your mind and make demands on your time. Just the oppertunity to get away from the things that so many people seem to feel are so important, but to my mind, just aren't.

Believe it or not, in PA my favorite sound is car brakes ... that means the Deer are crossing the road right down below me at the spring and I'v got about 3 min to get completly awake and get a real good lean !! rolleyes.gif wink.gif laugh.gif

In VA, it's all "natural / normal" woods sounds !! wink.gif

Best of all, including all of the above, is the feeling of freedom. Hunting, alone in the woods with gun/muzzleloader/bow is to me the ultimate exercise of the freedoms we enjoy, at least for now, in this country.

My favorite thing about hunting is getting away from the hectic things in life and not knowing what is going to happen when you look over the next ridge or walk out of the timber into a clearing. Favorite sound is the sound of branches breaking in the wake of a herd of elk running throughe the timber. Least favorite sound is the sound of a pine chicken taking flight only 5 feet from you. Scares the crap out of me every time. Favorite smell is dinner cooking back at camp when you return from the mountain and you are all cold and wet.

Those are good ones.

If I was in elk country..I think my favorite sound, bar none, would be a bugle!
