I have always hunted, ever since I can remember... My dad was an avid hunter, especially for squirrels, and started takeing me as soon as I was old enough to follow him into the woods and carry his squirrels... I did the same with my son. In fact, in the 80's he bought his own lifetime hunting/fishing license with money he made from his trapline, that he ran with mine... Now, with his job, however, he has not trapped in many years, but still hunts when he has the oppertunity... My wife, the daughter of an old cowboy, grew up a hunter herself, and brought her own .22 rimfire rifle, shotgun, and .30-30 rifle with her when we got married. However, for several reasons, she has not done much hunting in the last few years... Our daughter hunted squirrel and rabbits when she was younger and we lived in the country...but she doesn't even shoot much any more. However her husband is an avid hunter, and when his job allows, he hunts anything and everything that the season is open on... and has even tried trapping a few times.... How about your family...does anyone else in it hunt?

Yeah, on my dad's side. Every kin I know of has hunted before, but, I think I'm the only grandchild (going from my grampa's family line) that still hunts (And now, only three uncles that do). My dad's son used to hunt, but he couldn't take the killin (was a terrible shot), so he was more a fisherman.
My mother never has hunted, she "sees no point in it". She's not anti or anything...she just would rather clean the kills than kill herself. But, she's big on fishing.
To tally, the numbers aren't impressive. There are a LOT of us, but, only my grampa, 3 uncles, myself, and the rugrat do any hunting. But, I think everyone fishes. Most can't get off work in order to do it, but, the others they will eat the meat we give them.
Anyhow, I have always hunted and fished (lol..and when Robyn was a baby, got her a new .243

), and I go with certain buds once in a while, but my main hunting partners have always been family. Namely my dad and grampa. And, I enjoy the heck outta that.

Most of the family members I know fish but I'm the only hunter in the family. My stepdad tried bow hunting for a couple of years, he hunted with one of his brothers. I was in my early twentys and a rifle loonie when my stepdad got into the bow thing and I didnt like his brother much so I stayed pretty clear of them.
My best friend and his dad started me hunting when I was a kid and we still hunt together.

My grandfather was a real hunter and fisherman and that was about the only thing my
Dad and I did together was hunt and farm work. I have always hunted mostly in Pa. Maryland, and West V. I used to raise English Setters and did a lot of Grouse hunting. Both of my sons and grandsons are avid hunters and they like to fish also. Of corse we do alot of shooting and reloading. My sons are bow hunters also my oldest son killed buck in Ill. year before last with his bow that scored 192and 5/8 and weighted 312lbs.
I would like to go south hog huntin sometime if time and money ever get together at the same time and these p dog shoots sound like fun also.

bythebook, that is a sure enough nice buck..... and tell you what, I have always wanted to take in a prairie dog shoot myself... There are a few small dog towns around here, but they are not where a person can shoot them... I've heard of several places in our neighboring states of Kansas and Texas...but like you, when I had the money I didn't have the time, and when I had the time I didn't have the money......... Ah well....maybe some day.

My family? Sadly, not anymore.... I am it. I am like "the last of the Mohicans"....
I was born too late in my family (born 1961). See, my dad, uncles, grandfather, etc... all hunted back in the 40's, 50's, and into the early 60's. But when I was born and later on became of age to go out, they had all given it up.

Nowadays, none of my brothers-in-law hunt. They gave it up in the 70's after they got married to my older sisters.
However, on my wife's side, her younger brother hunts up in NY without much success, but he still hunts. He has a heck of a time too, because his wife is an
ANTI!!! Honest... it is a crazy situation!!! She wants no part of anything, and actually
made him take his shotgun, dismantle it, put a trigger guard on it, and then lock it up in a case, and then finally store it up in the ceiling tiles of their basement!!!!

Yeah, I know... he went along with it too. My wife's younger brother is so whipped, he's beyond hope.

My daughters won't hunt either. Forget about asking my wife. Sheesh, don't even try to take her to a range for that matter!
My wife isn't an ANTI like her younger brother's wife (Thank God), but she just doesn't get into firearms, target shooting, hunting, etc... But yet she'll go fishing.
{Whatever...}
My daughters have at least gone target shooting and skeet shooting with me. My daughter Jessica is even a better shot than me! Even so much that I officially passed down my old Marlin model 60 .22 rifle to her, because she smoked me on the range with my own rifle!

My other daughter Joy is a good shot like me, but doesn't have the keen eye like Jessica does.

We all hunt. All 11 of my brothers and me. We hunt everything coon, fox, coyote, coon...And magpies on special occasions like weddings.
My Uncle Jeb took me out when I was only 4 years old. Started shooting myself when I was 14. I'm the only girl for miles that can take down a good trophy animal.

Welcome cuthroat Watch that Amish dude in here
Now, back to topic at hand, my family has a big mix of hunting and non hunting, no Anti's that I know of, but the important thing is that my wife eggs me on to go out and fill the freezer and she's the one I gotta live with if she didn't like me hunting!!! (Sometimes that means a trip to the store though

)

No one in the immediate family ever hunted. Heard stories of uncles that use to hunt. I had to learn all the outdoor stuff myself. However my brother now hunts and my son too. Really enjoy hunting with my son. My daughter does not hunt but she shot and reloaded a lot of shotgun and rifle/pistol rounds. She trully understands why her dad and brother venture out there for deer year after year.

Uncle Buck, did they start hunting because you guided them to? If so, I think that's awesome, and I'm always glad to hear of that! Just think....since they do, they'll probably try to instill interest in others (friends, children, etc.). We need all the (future registered voters..LoL) hunters we can get nowadays!
