Not me. It's too danged hot. But, curious if you were. biggrin.gif

Tell you what though, I've been seeing a ton of deer out here. Every soul out here has an electric fence around their garden now. laugh.gif The deer are eating everything.

Have you been out to your hidey holes yet? I usually save that for late Sept/early Oct.

Oh, and it's just way to hot. (Worth saying twice!) wink.gif

I don't get much time to scout, but then I hunt mostly the same territory. I got my first Deer of the year week before last. I was going to meet my son and on the way I saw
an 8 point buck laying beside the road. He was moving his front and had his head up but didn't seem to be able to move his back end. I turned around and went back and he was crippled in the hind parts. I contacted the Pa. Game Comm. and they told me to shoot
him and they would pick him up. I told them with his rack I didn't think it would be there long. this was at 7:30 AM and when I came back thru about 4:15 PM he was there but his rack had been taken. He was 8 points about 17 Inches Inside spread and his G-2's were 9 inches long. You are right it has been too hot to do much out side.

Wow..you're up early. Good morning to ya! biggrin.gif

That's how I am. I've hunted the same place for years, and, I usually don't even fool with it ( hard core) cause they do the same thing (except they switched up to midday the last few seasons, but, I follow suit) every year and follow the same trails, etc. the only ones who don't follow "the rules" are the bigger bucks, and I don't care to shoot them unless I have the money handy for a mount. And so far..lol...I haven't yet I guess, cause I don't even try to pattern them. I'll look around in October when I'm there for tree rats, and I'm usually planting too, so I look around then.

But, that deer....reckon he was hit by a car? They don't let you keep the deer there ? (I wouldn't want a summer deer myself..but, we;ve had no issues when asking about a turkey that would fly in the road and hit the windshield & die). At any rate...that's a nice buck...and yeah, I see antlerless deer often.

Eww...I bet he was getting ready to swell too. That's pretty nasty...9 hours is a pretty while to be laying.

"Congrats" on your first buck of the season.... LOL... Actually I am sorry to hear of things like that happening...but it is pretty common around here also....and speaking of turkeys... During fall turkey season in 2000, I bagged my turkey that year with a yellow state dump truck.... He flew out of some brush beside the highway as I was going by, and smacked my truck, and seeing as how wild turkey is one of my favorite meats, I couldn't see letting him just lay there... He wasn't torn up very much, and his breast was perfect...so I took that part home.

The same to ya Hands. Most of the time I only sleep about 3 or 4 hrs. Yes in Pa. you can keep a deer when hit on the road but something like this you have to save them the rack. I think he was hit by a car as there was grease on his back and side, also I figured his hind quarters were badly bruised up as it looked like that was where he was hit. If I didn't have to go away that day I would have tried to find someone to take it. Mongo this stretch of highway I live on has some of the hightest rate of road killed deer in the state I have had too stop and pull dead deer off the roadway as many as 4 times in the 25 miles from my home to work. About 3 years ago I kept count and in that same stretch of road there was an average of 5 deer a day killed. The last couple of years we don't have as many deer so the kill has gone down.
