Well I am getting ready for the opening of dove season. It opens on Friday September the 1st. I can not make it so I am going Saturday the 2nd. I should break down and get a new shot gun but the almost 20 year old Mossberg is still shoting pretty good.

Any one else going after some doves??/

Are the doves you guys have out there white? We have white doves and grey bantail pigeons here but most folks call them all pigeons.
I'm going to miss our opener for dove, pigeon, and grouse here next week but I'll make up for it when I get home biggrin.gif
I use upland bird season for scouting deer and elk and bear season is still open.

The Dove opener for me is a Holy Day of Obligation. Will be heading for Blythe which is located at the Colorodo River. Sometimes it gets as hot as 117 degrees out at Blythe during Dove season. Blythe is in the Mojave Desert. I bought a brand new Remy 1100 in 20 gauge which I'll take as well as my Benelli SBE ll in 12 gauge.

Val, I will be about 70 miles south of you in the imperial valley. We will be in/around Brawley just south of the salton sea. It gets so hot in the dez that Satin himself leaves because of the heat.

We have Morning doves for the most part out here. There is a Mexican brown dove we can not shoot.

The ole Mossberg is all ready for another season. I was told that when I bought it, that Mossberg guns were not that good and it would not last. That was almost 20 years ago. I am glad I did not listen.

blvdbuzzard,
I've been to Blythe for over 12 years now, mostly out of habit I guess. We get a lot of Whitewings there. Last year we saw, but didn't get a shot, of those Eurasian collared doves. Keep hearing different interpretations by DF&G about collared doves. They are not listed as a game bird yet but apparently some Game Wardens say they'll count them in the limit and some say they won't.

VAl, I will be looking for the collared doves this year. I had not heard of them counting yet. Last year I saw a guy get a sea gull. Not that I am worried about an ocean rat with wings going down, but it sort of makes us look bad. I saw so many red winged black birds go down. it looked like they could not see what they were doing.
