I used to really hate packing to go for a stay at Hunting Camp. Now I actually semi enjoy it ... I recon mainly because I end up finding stuff that I sort of remember thinking I bought, but ended up misplacing !! noexpression.gif laugh.gif

This evening I found a small folding saw that I thought I had bought. I totally forgot it also came with a pair of "snips" that are ideal for trimming small briars or tresspasser's vehicle plug wires or valve stems in PA !! dribble.gif

I also found my manuals for my GFRS radio, they've been "lost" for bout 2 years now ... to bad I can't find the radio yet thou ... I'm guessing it's perfectly safe somewheres in Stayput (my hunting vehicle). I've learned a long time ago, not to attempt to look for anything in Stayput until it's completely daylight and I'v got at least a full hour of time to dedicate to the search !! lmao rofl.gif laugh.gif

Curious, do all ya'll have the same problem "misplacing" stuff that I do ??

Hey 99er,

I'm packing up too. I just hope I don't end up bringing everything but the kitchen sink (like I'm known to do laugh.gif ).

I usually don't misplace anything (unless my wife Margaret puts it somewhere - then it ends up in the mysterious "black hole" never to be seen again! {Please don't tell her I said that!!! She'll want to kick my a$$!!!} noexpression.gif ). Anyway, I start packing a day or two ahead of time so I don't end up running around trying to find something.

See you at camp! biggrin.gif

Butch,

As you well know, I don't have a whole hell of a lot of packing to do since bout 80% of my shit is in Stayput 100% of the time. Hell, I'm very seriously considering taking Stayput on her maiden voyage to PA this year, why bother unloading it into another vehicle and then having to revers the process when I get back ?? laugh.gif

I'm booking down to the Horse Farm again tomorrow morning and may swing by camp on the return trip. Otherwise, I'll be there sometime mid-day Sunday. In the meantime, I don't want you and Ed fighting over who gets to sleep in the Annex with "Rocky" the squirrel. devil.gif dribble.gif

Edit: Hell, this year I even remembered to pack my battery charger for small batteries and my "Mulled Cider" candle ... can't say that the scent of the candle helps, but it sure makes one heck of a good hand warmer for those frosty cold mornings. thumbsup.gif

That's cool... I can't keep anything like you got in my truck (I'd be afraid someone would call the cops on me if I kept a shotgun or rifle in my truck! -- ya gotta love city life ...not!) mad.gif

Anyway, I am all packed, except for the cooler of frozen food (which I'll do in the early morning before I leave). I have a ton of food, munchies, soda cans, etc... and some of those fire starter brick things in case someone wants to make a fire in the fireplace (like, Bawana for example).

If I have room, I'll toss in the Summit Viper treestand, so I can use that in the afternoons with the 30-30. The Remington 870 is coming as well, in case I want to use that while slowly stalking around the trails and in/around some real heavy brush, in the event I jump something.

See you there! biggrin.gif

Well, of course. It's cold here now and I'm going hunting in the a.m....and I can't find one of the linings to my "warm boots"..so, now I'm up chit creek. Watch me find it when it warms up again!!

While everyone seems to be talking about big equipment I carry a sack or bag with me no matter what I am hunting. I like Basspro shoulder bags and or the Army Navy store paratrooper bags. I watch for outdoor bags to be on clearance or an outstanding deal.

I have a shrooming bag
a woodchuck bag
a crow hunter bag
a Flintlock black powder bag
An Inline black powder bag
a predator hunters bag
a regular deer hunters bag.
a small game bag

I very seldom take things out of these bags. When I hunt chucks I take the chuck bag. When I hunt deer I take the deer bag. All of these bags have the needed equipment for me to accomplish my specific outdoor experience. The deer hunting bag have a deer drag in it, rubber gloves, gutting knife, waterless hand cleaner. deer calls, compass etc.

Woodchuck bag whistle, sunscreen, insect spray, anti tick spray, etc.

Small game bag would have medical tape and pads for blisters.

Each and every bag as a roll of the small camping toilet paper in it. Asprin should someone have a heart attack. A Primeatine inhaler and Primetine tablets.

The bags hang in a certain area of my basement all year. When I go anywhere in the outdoors I always look inside of course to make sure I have everything I need.

However the only thing that I could not find one year was 4 reloaded 243 bullets that I use for my Number # 1 Ruger. I could not find them from a previous season. I did not have time to shoot the 243 in with factory ammo so I have to take my 30/06. However I found the 4 bullets after the season was over in one of my deer hunting coats I used the prior year.

Lot of your stuff you look for are in you hunting jacket pockets. How many times I said to myself as I dug into a hunting coat or jacker. "Oh that is where the open reed predator call was!"

Dang UB, yer as fussy bout orginization as my sister is ... perhaps it's a Carlisle tlhing ?? Since you two are so much alike, perhaps I could enlist yer services as to advising her what her little bro needs and wants for Christmas (like a model-37 replica) ? Keep in mind that I still have a few contacts left in the Huntingdon County area, where the varmit hunting and ice fishing can quite good ... iffin you catch my drift !! rofl.gif laugh.gif rofl.gif

If I still lived up there, I know the exact area I'd be hanging out to get a crack at becoming the first person in PA to bag a Mountain Lion in modern times. So, you beetter be good to me iffin you have a burning desire to ever become the ultimate PA Predator Hunter one day !! On secong thought, perhaps you should be the one buying me that model-37 replica !! ... lmao laugh.gif laugh.gif

I regret to inform both you and Ed that Bawana (aka The Fireman) prolly ain't gunna be staying there till bout Tuesday night. Givin the history of Ed & you getting up in the middle of the night to stoke the fire, ol 99er is seriously considering staying in the warmth of the Annex with Rocky the squirrel. Soooo iffin I were in your shoes, I'd be packing an electric blanket like Ed does !! laugh.gif

I'm fetching my little buddy Rocky a small surprise that goes into and hopefully will come out of the chamber of my 44mag rifle !! devil.gif

BTW, since my Bawana is gunna be tied-up on Monday, would you happen to like to get some practice on gutting, dragging, and butchering up a deer ?? roflmao laugh.gif

I seldom ever stayed at a hunting camp... Generally where I hunted I just drove to from home...or walked to when I lived in the country... But let me make a suggestion that some of my friends that go to hunting camps do for evening entertainment.... For those evenings when just setting around drinking beer and shooting the breeze, with nothing to do, they take air rifles, (They are much more quiet than .22 rimfires) and they have shooting matches, perferate beer cans, and place bets on hitting things, or pot a squirrel or bunny for a meal....... (Chief once told me that at his camp people were afraid to set down a beer can once they open it, cause someone will plink a hole thru it.)

This is what I do now...but, it's one of those big fanny pack deals. I got it for like $2 on clearance after the season was over. I always keep my masks, orange, gloves, matches for wind, a light, knife, extra bullets, license, etc, and always toss in a fresh bottle of water too. Keeps me from having to stuff my pockets now.

Now that sounds fun! biggrin.gif

We used to have a lot of fun (and do a lot of unnecessary damage) in the olden days of VA Hunting Camp.

Outside light bulbs never lasted a full year, the old hunting camp cars had to be repaired almost on a daily basis, and small explosives where often too damn easy to get yer hands on (nuff said bout that). Course initally there was the motorcycle faze that everyone went thru, after a few broken bones and ER visits, the focus shifted to "hopped-up" jeeps and the like; in the later hell raising days, after a few jeep rollovers, the hunting camp cars (old ford station wagons) became the more "reserved" way to raise hell.

Now we're a very small and quiet lot, cept every once in a blue moon, Bawana and I will both get a simultaneous "flashback" and end up doing a little minor vehicle damage, but it's very limited since we are now footing the bill for the repairs, where in the old days the Camp owner just had em towed to his Ford Dealership for repair or replacement !! devil.gif

... and the Preacher & the High Sherriff said ... ying, ying, ying, ying yamaha !! rofl.gif laugh.gif
