I have hunted, trapped, and fished all of my life...and in that entire time I have been asked by a game ranger to show my license only once...and that was while I was fishing out at the city lake a couple of years ago... I have even had game rangers drive past me while I was running my traplines with several animals in the back of my truck, and never ask to see my license...and one even stopped and watched me dispatch and remove a coon from a set one time. Then continued to watch as I remade the set...then after I picked up my gear and started to leave, he smiled, waved, and drove on...... Have you ever had to show your license...and if so, does/did it happen often ?

I've had a few run-ins with conservation officiers. When I was younger grouse road hunting with my dad they would only ask to see our cased guns to make sure they were empty but would never ask for licenses. The last three times I've been stopped they have asked me for a license fishing and hunting. I think it's because of my appearance. I probably look out of place with my piercings and mohawk. Either way I always thank them for stopping me and tell them it's good to see them out here.

While fishing, about 6 times and 3 times while hunting. Certain areas get you checked more frequently.

We used to have a game warden in craig county Oklahoma that was constantly coming buy our lease and harrassing us about licence etc. This is with all of use having lifetime licences. Well the land owner finally put a stop to the harrassment buy telling him to leave and not to come back, we have not seen a warden in a couple of years now.

I lived in Washington state most of my life and the game dept there is plenty Gung Ho about checking your licence. I usually got checked 4 times a year while fishing and 1 or 2 times a year hunting. During the 4 years that I have been in South Dakota, I have have been checked 2 times while fishing only. I have a special combination small game hunting and fishing licence that is for disabled veterans. It costs only $10 and it is good for 4 years. Other states should show it's disabled vets the same consideration.

Good post Sodak Jim............ They do here in Oklahoma... A veteran assesed as 60% or more disabled is issued a free lifetime combination hunting/fishing license... Now, if I hunt deer or turkey I still have to buy a tag, or if I trap or fish for trout, I have to buy a trapping or trout license...but general fishing, and small game or bird hunting is covered by the issued license... I was also issued a permit to use a crossbow during archery season. Otherwise, for regular archery deer season here, they are not allowed.

you still have a bit yet, then, before you need one. I believe it's 16 for there, too, like it is here.

Carefull, squirrel kid, some states the age is 12! And in others you can't legally hunt before whatever age they set.
Hands
Too true. And even then, you have to be with a licensed hunter.

And welcome aboard chris112, if I haven't said it already1
