I find thoughts and stories of hunting exotic animals, and hunting in foreign lands, very interesting, altho I have never had the oppertunity to do so myself... At one time or another I have hunted about everything there is to hunt in my area, and have done a bit of hunting in a few surrounding states, and even in Alaska when I was stationed there in the service...but I don't consider myself at all "well-rounded" in hunting, really...but I know there are people here that are... So, let me ask... What one animal do you like hunting above all others? ... I'd pick the coyote myself...but like I said, I have not had the experiences many here have... But I would be very much interested to hear what your favorites are, what rifle/shotgun/handgun/cartridge/shell/etc., you prefer to use for it, and why they are your favorites.

Groundhogs, I like the work you have to put into your gun to get it accurate enough to make the long shots. I also like squirrel hunting.
Deer hunting has kind of lost it's shine for now. I have deer hunted for over 30 years. I guess it will appeal to me again later.

I also like Groudhogs and Squirrel hunting with rifles. I still hunt deer but not with as much vigor as I used to. I used to like to sneak hunt for deer but cannot do this now, and sitting in a tree stand all day is not my cup of tea. I have hunted Deer for 50 years and killed my share of nice Bucks but now I enjoy seeing my Grandkids kill a nice one. I also like to punch paper to.

Coyotes are what I like to pursue and predator calling in general. Fox, bobcat, coon, talk a bout a critter one can get one on one with. You have to almost think like a coyote to harvest them. You have to get into their brain and play with a little to coax them in for a shot. Most times the coyote wins too. Now that is hunting for you.

though some of you have mentioned deer hunting as a good one none have chosen it as favorite. deer hunting in the woods of wisconsin would have to be my favorite. i bow and gun hunt for them but i would choose bow over gun. at the time i am useing a pse compound bow with easton arrows and im trying the new RAGE broadheads. they shoot well but i havent had the chance to test them on an animal. as for gun i use a whinchester 1300 .12 ga. i shoot 2 3/4 in. slugs. they work well at 50-100 yards, but i have yet to shoot past that.
as a side note i snipe sparrows and other small birds out of the trees in my backyard. my marlin .22 does the job well. not really hunting but fun none the less.

Anymore mostly just Groundhogs in the Spring/Summer and Deer, Yotes, & Fox in the Fall/Winter ... I pretty much use either my 243 m-99 or 243 Remmy for everything, but will be "breaking in" my "newer" 300 Savage m-99 on Deer this Fall. Unfortunately, with my limited time (new job) to hunt this Fall, my Parker Crossbow will probably see more action on Deer than any of my rifles will. sad.gif

Shooting prairie dogs may not be hunting except to find the prairie dog town. I shoot them all year around . Over the past 55 or so years, I m 71 years old I have shot them with the 17 HM2, 17 HMR, 17 Rem, got a new 17 Fireball but not shot it, 204 Ruger, 22 LR, 22 WMR, 22 Hornet, 221 Fireball , 222Rem , 223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, 220 Swift, 243 Win, and a few big game rifles. This year I have shot mostly the 17 HM2, 17 HMR, and the 204 Ruger rifles but I did shoot a few p dogs with the 221 Fireball and 223 Rem. This fall I ll try out the 17 Fireball. I have 8 X, 12 X ,4-12 X, 4.5-14X, 6-18 X and 6.5-20 X scopes on the varmint rifles. I reload ammo for the center fire rifles I shoot. I ll use a 264 Win Mag w/ a Burris 4.5-14 X scope for mule deer and pronghorn hunting . I ll reload some 140 Gr bullets for big game shooting. I like varmit rifles that will shot 3/4inch or less 100 Yd groups and big game rifles that will shoot 1 1/4 inch or less groups at 100 Yds. I get rid of center fire rifles that dont.
