What was the primary handgun that you carried on the trapline, and it's chambering ? ... It doesn't take a target pistol, or a large caliber handgun to dispatch a coyote or coon from 6 feet...and everyone I know who trapped, carried a rimfire handgun of some type... A couple in .22 Magnum, and a few people I have talked to used the .22 Short cartridge... but the vast majority used the .22 LR.... For most of the years I ran traplines I carried an H&R Model 686 with about a 7 1/2 inch barrel, stoked with the cheapest .22 LR cartridges I could find..... What about you ? ... What did/do you carry, and what is the cartridge you use ?

I haven't trapped in the last couple of years but used to carry a Smith&Wesson M22A 22 target pistol. Just because it was the only rimfire pistol I had.

I used an H & R 22 LR for years. Just this year I did purchase a an Ruger Single six 22LR with 22 WMR cylinders. I'm sure that the Ruger will aim better when you have one of those red fox that just wont't sit for a shot.
