I hope you all check regularly to make sure your coil springs are still strong enough for the job... After a time, with use and the heat of dyeing and/or waxing, they will weaken... When they get like this it is best to replace them, but another couple of season's use can be had from them by takeing them off and "rewinding" them a little... However, my preferred "temporary fix" was to take a screw driver and slightly pry the end of the spring up where it rests aginst the base of the trap frame, and slide a large washer under it (I like 50 cent piece size or larger for #1 3/4 size or larger traps, and quarter size for smaller)...then slightly pry up the other spring and slide the washer over so that it is under both spring ends. The washer will stay in place due to the tension of the springs, and this WILL add a considerable amount of strength to the springs, and give you a few more seasons before having to replace them.
