Something about predator hunting your always learning something, especially from your mistakes.

I made a few stands last night. The wind was whipping up. Was not to pleased with the FX5 during the first stand. It just did not seem loud enough in the 10 MPH wind. Nothing appeared on the first stand. 2nd farm I started having difficulty with the FX5. It was no longer loud then it started shutting down. So much so that the 2nd farm proved a failure.

Problem here was using the Alkaline batteries I installed way back in July. They just got worn down with me playing with the FX5 from July to Now. LOL LOL

I had rechargeable batteries with me that I charged in July. Surpirise!!!!!!!!They lost there charge that they would not even allow the FX5 to work manually.
I found this out after I arrived at my 3rd farm.

Frustrated I almost called it quits. I only took the shotgun with me and left the rifle at home.

Decided that I would do it the old way. Made a stand using the standard Crit-R-Call open reed call. Did a rabbit distress and with-in 1 minute I had a red fox run right at me. I missed that red fox. I was using 3 inch copper plated # 4's. The shotgun was my BPS with a Holosight and the choke was an Undertaker turkey choke. Had I hit the red i'm sure his pelt would not been able to to been sewn up. LOL

Lesson Learned:
FOXPRO FX5 if one is going to use alkaline batteries make sure that they are brand new right out of the package.

Make sure the AA rechargeable batteries for the FX5 are charged prior to the hunt and that they do lose their energy if charged months before.

When taking electronics callers with you. Make sure you also place a rifle in the vehicle should you have to use the mouth call. I was depending on the electronics totally last night and did not think that I would have battery failure.

The lesson learned about missing the fox? No lesson there I have missed fox before and I will miss more in the future. The fox just got the jump on me thats all! LOL LOL Thats Fox Hunting For You!

I charged the 8 rechargeable batteries last night. As I type I'm recharging 8 more brand news ones. the new ones will take 16 hours to charge.
Also slipped 8 brand new alkaline batteries in the side pouch of my FX5 bag. Probably slip 8 more alkaline batteries in the other side pouch too. LOL

All in all however, it sounded like you had an enjoyable night....... But you know the old saying, "You learn more from your failures than from your successes."...... And yeah, I sure enough understand about having a shotgun in your hands, and then wishing you had a rifle...and vice-versa too...... Often I called with a partner, and when doing that one of us, usually Psycho, carried a shotgun, and the other, usually me, carried a rifle. But, in some areas we both carried shotguns, or we both carried rifles.... I generally loaded both into my truck when going out to call, then carried whichever I figured I would need out to make the stand.

Foxpro does sale a FAST CHARGE charger that attaches right to the FX5 call. It charges the chargeable batteries while you drive from one location to another. It also has an optional adapter that you can recharge using 110 outlet. Someone told me that rechargeable batteries lose a little power every day when not in use. The best thing to do is to have the Foxpro charged at all times. I already ordered it. LOL LOL

I also have one of those little Johnny Stewart PT1 electronic calls with a remote that works 30 yards away. I am now carrying that with me as a spare.
