Here are some pictures of Nana's (Hannah Mae O'Crimora is her registered name) 10th Birthday. She goes to work every day with the wife and the pictures were taken there at work during a party they had for her on her 10th birthday ...

Here is Nana's sidekick at work, the Owner's dog (a West Highland Terrier) named Ti ...

That little devil got his tounge sicking out at the photograhper ... We keep Ti occasionally when they are on vacation and he definately has a fettish for licking people in the ear !! biggrin.gif laugh.gif

For you newer folks, here are a few other pics of Nana in action retrieving Groundhogs ...

And taking a well deserved rest ...

Awesome! She even knows she getting her picture taken. I do not know if the word HAM is universal all over the U. S. but she sure is a HAM. A HAM is someone who likes to get his or her picture taken in these parts. Thank you for sharing.

Yeah UB, she is definately a HAM alright and a right decent hunting dog as well. One of reasons the Owner where the wife works likes her so much is that she keeps his groundhog population in check. She got 5 groundhogs on her own this year, all while she was at work. Once I'm feeling better I hope to get her out to do some rabbit hunting this winter.

Ti (the owner's Wes Higland Terrier) is a neat dog in his own right ... in addition to keeping your ears cleaned out, his other speciality is sneeking rides in the back of UPS or FedEX Trucks ... he's done that twice now, and has ended up as far away as 7+ miles down the road before they made their next delivery stop. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

A wonderful Airedale. Her teeth are excelelnt for her age. She reminds me my own Airedales, whcih I had six years ago. My Airedales worn there teeth too much, because they were digging a lot and used their teeth to cut roots and sticks on their way in the hole or den. They also chewed on armadillos too much. The were armadillo killers.
I also noticed that you are in Virginia.

Sevendogs,

Thanks !! Nana is a special one to me at least, now you see why I'm still pretty much hooked on Airedales ... it's all her fault !! LOL biggrin.gif

Yep, I live just outside of Wayneboro, in Augusta County ... probably about 1hr north of you.

I have red an article published in FULL CRY MAGAZINE about smooth version of the Airedale Terrier. They are AKC registered, but not for show, of course. A practical solution for hunters, especially in a hot southern climate. I even thought one time to buy a puppy.

Sevendogs,

My Airedale 's (Nana) Mother was from "show" stock and her Father was from "hunting" stock. We didn't get a chance to see the Father (he was out hunting with the man of the house) when we picked up Nana, so I really don't know he was a "smooth version" airedale or not; I sort of doubt it. Very, very sad to say that my wife ran into the breeder's wife about a year ago that we got Nana from and due to different accidents (rat poison in their chicken coop & antifreeze at a neighbors) the breeders only ever had the one litter of pups from that Dam & Sire. My wife did find out that the Sire was from Texas.

I did go searching on the internet to see if I could find some information on the "smoot version", but came up empty. If you happen to have any links or pictures of the "smooth version" that you could post, I would be quite interested in seeing them.

During my internet search, I did stumble accross this ...

http://www.huntingworkingairedales.org/Section_2.pdf

... a very interesting read on the Airedales and their Hunting pros & cons.

I was totally impressed with Nana a few years back when she actually retrieved Doves without any training whatsoever on my part. After reading that article I sure wish that I would have taken the time to give her some training and experience on bird hunting when she was younger.
