Welcome aboard Steve !! Real sorry hear about you loosing your buddy (dog).
What breed of dog was yours that you using on Turkeys ??
Although I'v never hunted Turkeys with dogs, from the article Iv read (not that many) I understand that you can use various breeds, but to actually find one that is good on hunting turkeys, you might have to go thru a couple of dogs to find one that is really good.
Again, welcome aboard !!

It was some sort of mixed breed. I don't know the exact makeup but I think it was 90% pointer/setter mix, a short hair, medium size brown dog with some white on the feet and chest. I got her from a man in Cumberland County that breed them for turkey dogs.

Would like to try a Laika? They find and tree turkeys just like they tree squirrels. I am in Virginia and I have a litter now. Eugene Penick, a friend of mine, hunts turkey with his Laikas; the dogs tree them. You need to walk quietly, of course. The turkey is not frightened by the dog, but it will take off from you, if noticed. I hunt manily squirrels, but saw turkey treed by my dog sometimes.

Thanks, but I'd like to find more of a pointer/setter mix or someone's bird dog that won't hold point and they can't break from running deer and flushing turkeys. Thanks for the offer though.
