Full Version: What kind of mouth predator calls one should use

I have hundreds of predator calls. However I make sure I always carry one of these Crit-R-Call open reed calls. One can't go wrong with Crit-r-Call Peewee, Standard, Magnum, Song Dog, and Song Dog Jr. to Talk The Talk.

good info on calling all over the world on the Major's site too.

The Crit'R-Call is an excellent call... I have a couple around here myself... I put it and the Tally-Ho as about equal, and two of the best of the commercial, open-reed calls........................... But, as to your original topic question of, "What kind of mouth predator calls one should use."... I would advise a beginning predator caller to start with an enclosed reed call, as a first purchase...simply because they are much easier to learn to "play" correctly.... Then, as they become experienced, move up to open reed calls such as the Crit'R-Call, and do alot of practiceing with it..... Major Boddicker used to write articles fairly often for THE TRAPPER AND PREDATOR CALLER, FUR FISH AND GAME, and other magazines... But I have not seen any stories from him in quite a few years now... He, along with Gerry Blair, were a couple of my favorite writers for topics on calling and/or trapping.

That is excellent advice that Mongojo has given for new predator callers to start off on a closed reed predator call.

Some of my favorite closed reeds would be Quaker Boy's Little Rascal also all of the Olt predator calls are outstanding both plastic and wooden.

Now when it's time to start off on a open reed call. One of the most easiest for a new predator caller to learn on is Primos Little Dogs. It comes with a mouth piece and two interchangeable barrels. One makes the call high pitched the other low pitched.

You can send questions about Johnny Stewart products at this web site. http://www.hunterspec.com/

you can send questions directly to Gerald Stewart there the owner of JS Call's. Of course now Hunters Pecialties does all the leg work for him. Try to findthe area that is called Ask The Pro's.. I would say this question is diredted to Gerald Stewart.

Yep I have seen that call and that is truly designated as a Squirrel Call. However many compaies d o make one similar that can do field mice and of al lthing puppy barks. I think that company would be Knight and Hale.
