I know that most, if not all of us feel the blood start boiling for different reasons, at the different seasons... But what one thing REALLY FIRES YOU UP, as far as outdoors activities go? What is the number one activity you prefer above all others? ... For me it was both trapping and predator calling...for my wife it is fishing in general and bass fishing in particular...but I know people to whom it is turkey hunting, deer hunting, trout fishing, fishing for BIG catfish, archery deer, etc., etc..... But what is it to you?

That first close gobble first thing in the morning, but also the crunching foot steps of a lone deer coming by my stand on a cold quiet morning in archery ain't too bad either.

Sorry FC, I couldnt resist that, Gobble has a whole different meaning over here,

My favorite is standing at the end of a wheat field with my 8 shot semi-auto 12g with the harvester headin towards me and you get about 6 rabbits run in all directions, Thats what I call fun,

Den.

LOL Just noticed den's signature. biggrin.gif
A gobble gets me going but seeing a shooter buck in archery is what trips my trigger. dribble.gif

Predator calling. Your out there at night thinking nothing is interested in your dying rabbit. All of a sudden the red eyes appear right in front of you. Yep like to hunt the hunters or become a part of the hunted. Now I do not know if I would feel the same if those eyes belong to a Mountain Lion. I will take the bobcat, coon, coyote, red and gray fox. Unless it was the daytime. Believe me it's so nice to see an incoming predator. Now if your hunting over snow conditions at night time it's better yet. No light needed. You see the red fox bounding over the snow coming right to you for the field mouse distress sound.

I like that first glimpse of a cautious movement in a thicket, or a flick of a tail from a deer, right before it dares to venture out in an opening. when it's out and I'm watching from my hidey hole, I like that feeling of wanting to pounce...only my claws and fangs are my rifle and bullets. I like the rush of a well placed, especially if intricate, shot.

Deer hunting, so far, is where it's at for me.

i'm a new guy to this forum but I really like what I see so far. As to what gets me fired up its simple, There is nothing more awesome than sitting in a high mountain meadow listening to the bull elk bugle.

Glad FC & DEN got that, er, straight! By the time I got the bourbon off the keyboard it was all over and I didn't have to say it!

With me, it's hard to pin down, even if I restrict the choices to hunting and fishing sorts of things. Stepping up to the line in a Cowboy fast draw match, any sort of live target in a sight picture, the "ka-boosh" of a top-water lure on a placid lake at dawn, the sudden scream of a salt water trolling reel. I haven't trapped since I was a teenager in PA, but there were a couple of mornings when I could tell from the sound that I had something very P.O.ed in a trap that not built to hold it.

As has been hinted at above, just about any predator-prey situation, even the ones where I was on the pointy end.

What gets me fired up is havin to catch my fishin pole just before it goes in the water and then fightin the catfish for 20 min., but the best part is when i get the catfish to the top and i see a huge splash and it heads straight for the bottom.

Yep nothin beats a good catfish.

What get's me fired up?

Setting the hook on a good fish.

The sound of an upland birds wings as he flushes near me.

Hey everyone. Just read through the posts - I'd have to say for me it's just the glimpse of a deer's tail or that first movement of the lure. I could keep going...but I wanted to drop a quick note about a new product I represent - Jig-a-loo. The stuff works great for anything fishing or hunting related. It’s a lubricant that will keep all your gun mechanisms working properly plus it will prevent grime from building up. It'll also keep your fishing reels working properly and will prevent rust on your fishing flies, reels and lures. Look for the orange can and check out www.jigaloo.com if you are interested.
