It would be so interesting for all of you that only own one deer rifle and one shotgun to let us know what the make and brand it is?

Notice the Hornady is now making a factory load for 30/30, 35 Rem, 444, 45/70, that now makes the lever guns capable of harvesting game out to 300 yards. Some hunters only have a 30/30 Marlin or Winchester for deer. The Hornady Leverlution Ammo make the one gun hunter who owns a lever gun
more deadly on deer at farther ranges?

I sort of belong to the "one of each" type of philosophy.

Shotgun: Remington 870 Express 12GA.
Rifle1: Marlin 30AS .30-30 with plain iron sights.
Rifle2: Savage 110 .308 with a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope.

I bought the Savage .308 because I just can't see myself putting a scope on the ol' .30-30 as it just doesn't look right. Plus I just can't get rid of it or sell it now that I have the .308 because it is a timeless classic and is fun to shoot.

I know Hornady makes the LeverEvolution rounds for the .30-30 but I haven't tried them. My Marlin, for some reason, prefers Winchester Silvertip 170gr. I have the rear iron sight set at 50 yards and use it when I'm in the thick brush and real heavy woods.

The Savage .308 is dialed in dead on at 100 yards. I still need to get it out to 150 yards or maybe 200. But, I remember when I had it locked into a buddy's bench rest, and it printed a 3 round cloverleaf square in the bullseye using Federal ammo. cool.gif Well then again, I had the scope maxed at 9 power and was at 100 yards. I do know this... Ol' 99er was right about Savage rifles shooting Federal ammo. My Savage won't shoot anything but! biggrin.gif

The Remington 870 12GA doesn't have a preference. It'll shoot anything, no matter what I feed it.

I have six shotguns and about 15 rifles and a couple of handguns but I acquired them one at a time.

Well, I have "a few" guns...and this would be such a dull world if we were limited to only one.... But I agree with you UB... That new Hornady LEVERevolution Rifle Ammunition should be just the thing for the one gun lever action rifle hunter... But, even were I still able to get out and hunt I doubt that I would use it however. I have developed some very good handloads for my old "thrudy-thurdy" that work just fine in the type of terrain I or my wife used it for...brushy creek bottoms, and thicker wooded areas... If the areas we hunted were more open, or we were "stand hunting", we just used a rifle in a chambering with more reach.

On a negative note I was looking at the 35 Rem LEVERevolution Rifle ammo the other day. 20 rounds cost $32.00............?????
However it looks like that all ammo has gone up in price. Even the $8.00-$10.00 a box 30/30 is no longer available at that price. However you start getting into the unique caibers......Like the 6 MM, or the 2506, etc. The 30/30, 243, 308. and 3006 are still a little cheaper then the other calibers.
Last year I paid $26.00 for a box of 2506 ammo. Now it's up in the $30's.

However on a postive note for $32.00 for 35 Rem LEVERevolution ammo. It cost $32.00 for 10 each, 3 inch, 12 gauge Deadcoyote shotgun ammo.
I was hunting coyotes just the other day. I was using the shotgun and I did buy a box of Deadcoyote last year. Of course last year I did not pay $32.00.
Howeve I thought to myself. "Gee this stuff is expensive?" "It's proably made out of gold?" When I opened the box to pull three shells out the shells were gold in color. So at least they do give you gold color shotgun shells.

I have several rifles, but tend to use only my 20GA single barrel Westpoint when I am hunting with a scattergun. (I can always grab momma's 10-bore if I have to go hunting in the house!) Thus, the new Hornady ammo' is moot. (I'm a big fan of Hornady; I use their L&L AP press (serial number well under 100!) and I love their 40gr .224 V-Max for varmints.)
My youngest son's wife has a .30-'30, but she tends to shoot my hand-loads. The heavy metal is salvage, the brass is salvage, so she only has to pay for powder and primer. I guess they work, too: She took out two hogs, about 400# each, with three shots last month.
