Alligator Hunting Season Opens August 15 In Alabama

6/12/2008

Hunters have until July 14 to register for Alabama’s third regulated alligator season which begins August 15 in Mobile-Tensaw Delta and August 21 for Lake Eufala.

Officials expanded the hunts to the two locations last year to help thin out the growing alligator population. Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said it succeeded.

This year, the season runs from Aug. 15-18, and Aug. 22-25 in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and Aug. 21-Aug. 24 at Lake Eufala.

Hunters may register online at www.outdooralabama.com.

Sure hope it's cooler than your part of the world, Mongo. This week all you'd get would be fried 'gator steak!

I would love to do this..specially if they're doing it in Lake Eufala. They did get a slew of gators the last go round...hope they get more this time. If they'd ever open it on the Alabama River, I'd so be there...they have them long as your boat there..lol. But, they did have probs in the bay and stuff, you could see them from the bridges, and not even sposed to be any there.

Hope they get a good haul this year, too.

Well...LOL...the last few days here it has been hitting 102 and 103, with heat indexes reaching as high as 111... But they are calling for a cold snap by next weekend, with temps falling into the upper 90's... Guess we best be for digging out the blankets.

Hands, I'd like to try hunting and/or trapping gators at least once myself... My brother in law that just moved back here from Florida, has told me about doing it...and it does sound like fun.... We have a Lake Eufaula here ourselves. A big sucker, located over east of OKC... In fact it is the largest lake located entirely in the state of Oklahoma...but, to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any gators in it.

that's way cool, I didn't know that!

I'd like to do it too, just once.

C'mon Fatty that would be so fun to sniper one of them. I just think retrieving would be as bad as dragging a deer up a mountain.

Hands or Mongo what is to a gator hunt? How do you retrieve when they sink?

I dont care it still sounds like a lotta fun! smile.gif

"Donno...Mongo only pawn, in game of life." ............ I've never been on a gator hunt, but I'd like to try it...... My brother in law has taken some gators down in the swamps in Florida when he lived there... But, going by the way he talks, I believe he just kind of "takes them oppertunistically", and doesn't actually set out to hunt them.

We aren't ate up in them or anything. They are only the Alabama River (where they are protected), and they never hurt anyone there. You can and often see them the length of your boat there though. And, we have them in Mobile and those are getting troublesome, mostly cause of all the commerical fishermen complaints.

You hunt them, typically with a boomstick, or bangstick (I like boomstick for the term cause it reminds me of Army of Darkness and Bruce Campbell "This is my Boomstick!") and you pull up to them and hit them on the head with it and it shoots them. So, I guess you can hook them if it kills them....I dunno, I never been on one. But, you're right there with them.
I guess you could do it any way ...I dont know how easy they die or anything.

Thoroughly enjoyable movie, by the way...but then I have appreciated Bruce Campbell in everything I have seen him in... And I am a fan of the new series he is in too, BURN NOTICE.
