First off, Im new to the forums. Over the last few years ive really got into hunting with blowguns, slingshots, and currently learning the atlatl. Just curious if other people here have tried hunting with alternative methods?

I've known people to use slingshots, but I never use any alternative, myself. The atlatl would be kinda cool. It's legal here in Bama, but ain't never known anyone to actually try it. Is it hard?

Its actually really easy to use. Im working on being more accurate before I really try to hunt with it. I figure If i can consistenly hit a 2 liter bottle from 30yrds I'll try to hunt with it.

Welcome ZenkiGarage... Glad to have you join us........... I've done some slingshot hunting when I was younger...and altho I do occasionally "play" with my blowgun in the back yard, I have never hunted with it. My son in law has taken a number of mice with his however..... Speaking of the atlatl, I have read a bit about it, and know that a couple of states have atlatl deer seasons...but I have never tried one.

i have a slingshot and a blowgun but ive never hunted with either.

Ive always wanted to hunt with throwing knives though i think it would be an interesting challenge

Ive seen a guy hunt boars with a knife. Thats a little to up close and personal for me lol.

lol, it'd be cool with catch dogs though. Nothing really to do but stick them at the end. They are vicious beasts though!

That's good practice though, and pretty impressive. Yep, if you could do that consistently...you'd be raring to go, I'd think. Is it deer you are going after?

I was first planning on trying for a turkey with the atlatl and if I succeed move up to deer. Im hoping the atlatl can be my big game tool. The biggest Ive taken with the blowgun was a goose and jack rabbit and took a racoon with the slingshot.

Sweet! Yeah, that'd be kinda cool to fall a turkey with one.

It would be so cool to hunt whitetail deer with a spear. I think on one of the Hawaiian Islands they hunt wild boar with a spear?????Thats what I heard anyway when I was stationed on the island of Oahu.

how do you aim with a slingshot. I bought a new one and im pretty accurate but im not sure how to properly aim one.
ZenkiGarage
All I can say is practice. its all instictive. some people say aim with the top of the yolk some say the middle. BUt no matter what its all instinctive due to different draw lengths, distance, and the manner you hold it. Hell when i shoot, I never even look at my slingshot. Ive found if you just draw and shoot fairly quick you'll do better than holding it drawn thinking about your shot then shooting. You also get more power with a quick draw and shoot. the longer you hold it back the less power that shot is going to have.

heres a neat video.

It may not be as sporting as a slingshot, but I have a friend in Spokane that has collected 2 nice deer with his S-10 pickup truck. It wasn't on purpose, but it was effective none-the-less. He claims the deer hit him rather than the other way around. It was less than 2 weeks after his truck was repaired from the first deer the second deer was hit on the same stretch of road. The second deer totalaled the S-10, but he bought it from the insurance company and restored it for his son.
