Hello all, I have recently moved to Waynesboro, VA from southern WV. I am in a panic to find somewhere to hunt. If anybody can help me out with a club I can still get in or some land that is public with deer on it I would be very grateful. I can't stand the thought of not having somewhere to sling arrows this season. Thanks for any help you can give.

There are a few fellas here from that area, I believe... Perhaps one of them can give you some ideas... I just wanted to step in here and say, "Welcome to the forum... Glad to have you join us Mutters70. "

Waynesboro? Welcome to the forum. I'm in Richmond. There is a fellow on here named model99er, who is from Waynesboro. I hunt with him out in the George Washington Nat'l Forest. He can fill you in alot more....

Mutters,

In addition to the PM's here is a little more general info on the surrounding area that might help you ...

Blue Ridge Parkway Ranger's Office ... I think it's located out next to Love Gap just off the Parkway. From Waynesboro take Lyndhurst Road and go on thru Lyndhurst, Sherando, Sherando Lake, and continue on like your going to get on the Parkway from that direction. Again, the "special permit" thing to be able to hunt there, may well be just someone blowing smoke.

VDGIF (Virginia Dept. of Game & Insland Fisheries) Regional Office ... it's located in Verona along rt. 11 north. It might not be a bad idea to give them a call and see if they can provide you with any additional info. The WCO for Augusta Co. first name is Neil, a good guy (I met with him a few years back to discuss Va's Coyote regs, which are quite vauge like in most states).

Dominion Outdoors ... at Fishersville (near Augusta Expo) probably the best place to have any sort of work done on Archery Equipment. Good helpful folks and with their new store a really good selection, just a tad on the pricey side.

The Gun Shack ... along Rt. 612 jsut a mile or so east of Verona. It's small, has good prices, and the owner Andy is a hell of a good guy. Tell Andy, Model99er sent ya so I can get my kickbacks. LOL laugh.gif

Nuckles Gun Shop ... in Staunton, I believe it's under new ownership, never had any problems there, just a little out of my way.

Also Parker Bows ( http://parkerbows.com/pb/2007/ ) is located just south of Stauntion along Rt. 11. In case you wonder why you seem to see a lot of Parker Bows and Crossbows in the Area. LOL wink.gif

Like in most places, private property is the best place to hunt. Next year I'd recommend starting your search for Private Property that borders the National Park along the Skyline Drive or Blue Ridge Parkway. Probably even a better idea is to contact some Farmers close by and offer to thin-out their Groundhog populations !!

Hope this helps some and welcome to the "hood". laugh.gif

LOL...Both of those were killed within 5 minutes of my house in WV. The smaller one on the right was killed without me even gettin in a truck, I walked out my front door and up on the ridge behind the house. Both on land open to the public to hunt. The county I lived in was a "bowhunting only" county, which makes for some big ol' bucks. Gosh I miss WV right now...lol
I shoot a Hoyt Vortec, it's now about 7 years old but it still shoots like new, still very fast and straight, and I've never had a problem with it so I'll probably keep it for another 7 years.
