Predator hunters that like to use a shotgun like me are always looking for the shotgun that can reach way out there. I shot a red fox last year well over 50 yards away using Rem # 6 shot Hevishot and the choke described below. It can also throw a nice pattern using the new Dead Coyote T Shot or Number #4 Buckshot. So if your a scatter gun hunter you might be interested in using one of these chokes in your scatter gun. I have one for a Browning BPS which takes the Invector Plus system choke.

Dead Coyote Choke Tube
For use with Hevi-Shot, Bismuth or lead, this high performance choke tube has been specifically designed for the coyote hunter to deliver devastating downrange patterns upwards of 70 yards when shooting larger shot sizes. Produces very dense patterns when ultilizing T and Buckshot loads. Great for waterfowl and predator hunting.
NOT FOR USE WITH STEEL SHOT

I used my shooting sled to see how different shotgun loads would work for the upcoming fox season. I took shots at 40 and 50 yards with it using different brands of shotgun shells and shot. I used one of those Carlson Deadcoyote choke tubes for all of my shots. I have a Bushnell Holosight red dot attached to a 12 gauge BPS Composite stock Stalker pump.

I anchor the sled to the bench using 4 shotbags filled with sand. I added One and 1/2 bag of lead shotgun shot to the sled too. The sled did not budge at all when I fired 2 3/4, 3 inch, high brass # 6,5,,4, and 2 shot, 2 3/4 buck shot, and 3 inch # 4 buck shot.

By far the most accurate shot at 50 yards was the older Remington Hevishot in # 6 shot.

The next best shot at 40 and 50 yards was Federal Premium # 4 shot both 2 3/4 and 3 inch. This is copper plated shot and it work Outstanding. The 2 3/4 inch was 1 1/4 oz of # 4 shot and the 3 inch was 2 oz of # 4 shot.

I also had excellent patterns at 40 and 50 yards with Remingtion 3 inch Nitro Mag # 2 shot.

Excellent patterns were to be had with Win 2 3/4 inch 1 1/4 oz # 4 shot Turkey loads. this was at 40 yards.

The best # 4 buckshot load was the Winchester 3 inch Premium shell. The pattern was uniform and covered the entire circle.

I shot a load of Win 2 3/4 High Brass 1 1/4 oz duck and pheasant loads and this pattern was sufficent to kill a fox at 40 yards.

Also Rem Express 2 3/4 High Brass # 4 shot was sufficent to harvest a fox at 40 yards.

The negative shot that did not pattern well with the Carlson Deadcoyote choke was:

Remington 3 inch # 4 buck shot. The pattern was not centered and was grouped to the left of the circle.

Also the Chechoslovikia made brand # 4 buckshot pattern worse of all. You can tell when you fire it that it just does not have the power.

Anyway I would not hesitate to purchase a Carlson Deadcoyote choke for my Winchester shotgun.

To sum it up I can use any of the positive commented shotgun shells I mentioned above come the opener.
However for those special hunts.......My first choice would be Hevishot........Then the Federal Premium # 4 shot in either the 2 3/4 or the 3 inch shell. This is copper plated shot and it's a premium buffered load.

You know how a pool player can call their shots. I can now use the cheaper ammo for fox that I know are going to walk right out 30 yards in front of me. Now if the set up calls for a possible longer shot. I think I will use the Federal Premium # 4 shot or the Remington Nitro 3 inch # 2 shot. Or the Win 2 3/4 # 4 shot Turkey loads.

If you do not want to purchase a Carlson Deadcoyote choke tube. Use a full choke tube that has a .690 constriction on it. Many of your chokes have the decimal constriction annotated on it. It's right between Full and Extra Full on some guns. For example the Win Extra Full has an constriction of .690.

Win Choke X-Full #12216 .690 constriction

Click on your name brand here and see which one is close to the .690 constriction.

I am so hooked on this Carlson Deadcoyote Choke that I will always use it with my Browning BPS when I am hunting all types of predators. Now I heard that some of the big stores have put their name on the Deadcoyote choke. (Cabelas) (Primos). I wonder if they shoot the same as the Carlson? I think Carlson was the first to put it out for purhase?

I it shoot real well with any of the copper plated turkey loads.
