WOW !!!!
Thanks to a very, very, very generous cousin, sometime between the next month or so and probably Christmas I will be getting my Granddad's gun !!
As it turns out, my roots to model-99's go back a generation further than even I knew ... the gun is a Model-99 250-3000, which I never ever saw or even guessed existed !!
To say I am overwhelmed would be an understatement, especially since my cousin is giving it to me, since he hasn't used it in many, many years. He said he just wanted to give it to someone in the "family" that would hunt with it and take care of it. I let my cousin know that I was just the man fer the job !!

You're one lucky guy! Over 20 years ago, I actively was searching for a 99 in 250/3000. Even then they had become very scarce indeed. (People who had them simply didn't give them up)
A word of advice - The 100gr. is the only load for deer. I know you have said that you don't reload, so my advice would be to consult Hornady which has a great custom reloading line. Let me say this about the cartridge.
It is NOT a cartridge to use on the south end of a deer going north. It just doesn't have the punch to drive forward to the boiler room. (I can hear the howls already of the 250/3000 fanatics but trust me on this) It does have great accuracy and penetrates well. (in soft tissue) Quite frankly, in my far distant youth, it was considered a "lady's gun". That's not really as much of an insult as it may sound. They said that too about the 7mm Mauser and the 7mm Mauser has been carried by professional hunters in Africa. I think the term refers to a light recoiling firearm)
